Private Residence

BOZEMAN, MONTANA

The project goal was to design a single story traditional home, with roots in "western" vernacular, on a modest budget. The exterior palette is a very dark brown lap siding and creamy white trim, which makes a reference to Forest Service cabins that typically can be found in any National Forest. Accents of white washed rough sawn cedar give a rustic character and contrast to the rich body color. With the property being a multi acre lot and the clients wanting the native vegetation on the majority of their property, the landscape design is intentionally very linear to contrast against the natural setting. The greatest challenge in the project, at the request of the client, was the need for the buildings to be fully accessible, without appearing to be designed in that manner. Based on the client interests in colorful artwork and accessories, the interiors are designed to be a clean palette, with some meaningful natural accents.
